Gold

Ahh, the perils of blogging. Every once in a great while, between the pablum, the idiocy and forced "ain't I so cute" jokes, you strike gold with something like "The Night the Dog Ate the Hearing Aid."

Not long after the exceedingly rare moments when the heavens align and pour forth USDA AAA Comedy Sirloin, a few hours of smug satisfaction quickly give way to the terror of the next act. Like astronauts returning from the moon, you know you'll never again reach those heights.

So terror gives way to depression, futility and procrastination -- which is one hell of a way to say I have writers' block. Between preparations for Hopes first birthday, trick or treating and the madcap Midwestern urge to decorate every square inch of the house in autumnal bunting, I've run out of anything interesting to say.

That's not to say things are quiet. Hope dazzled as a turkey for Halloween and bumble bee for her first birthday party, which followed two days later.

Somehow, we survived both the party and the preparations. I realized I had crossed a symbolic, never-to-turn-back threshold while discussing the shindig with Mo. I suggested beer, costumes and a great big submarine sandwich that we could eat with French Onion dip.

Her counter: Halloween-themed cookies, finger foods, something called Vampire Punch, phony eyeball meatballs, pass-the-pumpkin children's games and, by the way, you are a knucklehead.

Three guesses who won.

Funny, words never seem to fail you (oooh, snap). JK, you're still the best, even with writer's block.

Keep on posting those pics! Such a cute turkey...I miss those days. Think the 16 year-old would mind if I dressed her up as a bee?!

Love all the new photos! Sounds like Hope had a busy and exciting week.

Writer's block? No way, even your most mundane posts put the rest of us to shame.

Oh, and my guess would be Maureen won! Pass the finger foods please ;-)

About time! I've been checking daily for birthday/Hallowe'en pix. It was worth the wait, though. Sure wish we could have been there.

Mo, the decorations and food do you proud. Don't listen to Joel; the urge to decorate everything in sight may not last forever, including the baby, so enjoy!

Love from Grandma K.

Oh, that sounded bad! I meant "decorate everthing in sight, including the baby."

Happy (Belated) Birthday, Hope. You are getting to be such a big girl. Looks like you had a ton of fun for Halloween and at your birthday party. You are adorable. Mommy and Daddy sure fixed some cool things for your party. Aren't they the greatest? Be sure to tell them. Can't wait to see more pictures of you and hear more stories about what you're doing. Have a good weekend.

"Gold" is the perfect title. My question is: Mo, from where on earth do you summon the energy to dress up in cool costumes, decorate the cake, cut the pumpkin, make fancy finger foods, and still take care of a one year old (and of course find snappy comebacks for your goofy husband??) Cheers to all of you!
